I'm a perfect low-maintenence plant. I'm happy as a stand-alone plant in a pot, or I can be grouped with other calendula to make a real impact statement in a container or at the front of the border. I have a long flowering period - all summer long! My ancestors were originally from across southern Europe and were considered important for predicting the weather; if their petals were closed in the morning, then rain was expected … open petals meant “crack open the lemonade and unfold the deckchairs; baby, it’s gonna be a scorcher”. My name derives from the Latin for calendar because it was thought my flowers would open on the first day of each month … I suppose that all depended on whether it was going to rain or not! If I'm in a pot I’d be grateful if you make sure there is good drainage at the bottom.
Calendula
I’m fast-growing, maybe 30cm x 30cm by the end of summer.
