My home is across the southern American countries near Brazil. Spoiler alert - I'm a tropical plant, so you and I will only get along together if you can place me in a sunny south-facing spot. Come to think of it, I'm super-fantastic on a south-facing balcony. I'm named after Admiral Louis de Bougainville who sailed around the world in the 1700's, and I was "discovered" by Jean Baret, a female botanist on the ship. Baret was only able to join Bougainville's expedition by disguising herself as a man, and so she also became the first woman to circumnavigate the globe! I'm at my best in a pot, and if you remember where I'm originally from, you'll know not to give me too much water.

Growing wild in warm countries I can cover the entire wall of a house. Here in the UK I'm much slower growing, you can treat me like a small patio or balcony plant, or a large indoor climber.
